An explosion at a Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) maintenance facility in Atlanta killed two Delta (DAL) employees and injured another, local news agencies reported.
The incident at the maintenance hangar near Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport reportedly occurred sometime before 5:00am ET when a tire on a plane exploded while being removed.
There has been no confirmation of the type of plane involved.
The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is Delta’s (DAL) largest hub, serving routes to the Southern and Eastern U.S., Latin America and Caribbean, and is home to Delta’s headquarters and its primary maintenance base, Delta TechOps.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers is calling on the carrier to quickly launch an investigation into the explosion.
According to Delta's (DAL) flight status website, no flights have been impacted due to the incident.
Delta (DAL) shares are down for a second consecutive day.
