Citi opened a positive 90-day Catalyst Watch on Virtu Financial (NASDAQ:VIRT) as analyst Christopher Allen expects strong trading and execution data for July given improved retail activity and volatility, compared with recent months.
"And while still early days, August data-to-date points to an even better environment," he wrote in a note to clients. "Given these trends, 3Q is shaping up to be an exceptionally strong quarter from our perspective."
He sees a "clear upside" for Q3 results due to the stronger environment combined with the improvements made in Virtu's (VIRT) operating model. "And longer-term, we remain constructive on the story given numerous growth opportunities (options, FICC, ETF blocks, crypto, etc.)."
Citi expects Virtu (VIRT) to post Q3 EPS of $0.73, 4% above consensus.
The firm's recommendation on the stock is Buy, aligning with the SA Quant rating of Strong Buy and the average Wall Street rating of Buy. Price target at $32 implies a potential upside of 14%.
