Former President Donald Trump said Thursday that he is starting to believe that marijuana should be decriminalized given legalization in many states.
At a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., the Republican presidential nominee said, according to Marijuana Moment. "As we legalize it throughout the country — whether that's a good thing or a bad thing— it's awfully hard to have people all over the jails that are in jail right now for something that’s legal."
As a Florida resident, Trump will have the opportunity to vote on a proposed constitutional amendment that would legalize recreational marijuana in the state. He said he would soon address this issue. Gov. Ron DeSantis (Rep.) is again legalization.
As president, in 2018, Trump rescinded the Cole Memorandum, put into effect by former President Obama in 2013 that directed federal prosecutors not to pursue many marijuana offenses.
