- Labcorp (NYSE:LH) is reportedly considering ramping up its testing capacity for mpox amid a rising number of cases of the contagious disease.
- Labcorp (LH) processes around 500 tests a month for mpox, also known as monkeypox, but has the ability to scale up to approximately 25K a month. The company is working with US healthcare officials to determine if it needs to increase capacity, according to Reuters.
- The World Health Organization recently declared mpox a public health emergency amid the emergence of a more contagious variant of the virus, which is related to smallpox.
- Other providers of mpox testing services or products include Quest Diagnostics (DGX), Roche (OTCQX:RHHBY) and Abbott (ABT). Co-Diagnostics (CODX) and Applied DNA Sciences (APDN).
